The Setting Sun

The Setting Sun

For whom does the sparrow sing,
For whom does the kitten purr.
All of these and the setting sun,
All must be for her.

For whom does the cricket call at night,
For whom does the green grass grow.
All of this and the setting sun,
Are for her, this much I know.

For whom at night, do the stars shine down,
To whom does the moonlight cast.
All of these and the setting sun,
As long as her breath shall last.

Now for whom will the robin sing?
Now for whom will the green grass grow?
Now that you are gone my love,
These things I shall not know.
