I received a letter
From my past today
It had some interesting
Things to say
It answered a question
I once had
About a stranger
Whose name was dad

The date was postmarked
Some years back
(Perhaps it was lost
in the post mans sack)
Whatever the reason
However the rhyme
It just didn't make it
to him in time

I tried to love
and to believe
the man who stood up
and requested leave
but i will never come
to question my
keenness to
detect a lie
